I thought this was interesting and useful information if you are looking for a new kayak and wondering what will carry you and all your gear. It's a pretty short and clear article.

Compost Post!

I've been working on a compost pile for a few years now. I'm sure I'm doing some things wrong because I've had volunteer plants growing from the pile. Those tomatoes were tasty though. But I digress. I was just having breakfast shopping local at the Dose coffee shop in my hood and wanted to give a shout out. Their food and milk tea are delicious of course, but I was taking food to-go and I was delighted to see that their cups and to-go containers were compostable, from a company called stalkmarketproducts.com. I haven't researched this company but their containers seemed pretty sturdy and they are now the newest layer of my compost pile. We will see how the decompose in the coming weeks and months.

Decisions Decisions

Being eco-friendly is hard y’all. Every tiny decision we make every day has far reaching repercussions. I needed new dental floss and all the options I found came encased in plastic. I finally found one that came in a glass bottle with a metal lid, but it wasn’t made in the US and I wasn’t able to identify where it WAS made. Sometimes we have to choose between imperfect options.

We at LakeLove are working hard to make our products as water-friendly as possible and to that end we have been exploring several options. We have also recently been reading up about “fast fashion” and how tons of clothing is cheaply made in mass quantities using cheap materials and a lot of it is discarded before it is even worn once.

This is why we have decided to dip a toe in the “Print on Demand” world with our next product, which we think is a fun addition to our line. You’ve all seen the name lists of famous country music stars, Golden Girls, or other famous lists of characters. We have added to those famous lists with a shirt listing the names of the best-known rivers in middle Tennessee! Take a look on our home page and order one for all of your friends! Rest assured that we haven’t printed a huge stock of shirts in anticipation of all the orders. Not a single shirt will be created until you order one. That gives us a pretty good feeling. Like floating down a lazy river on a sunny day…

We are partnering with Printful for this shirt. You can read about some of Printful’s eco-friendly efforts here.

Citizen's Water Academy

One day I’m minding my own business signing up for a tour of one of Metro Nashville Water Treatment Facilities and the next day, I receive an invitation to apply for the Citizen’s Water Academy and learn all about Metro Water Services’ work to make sure we all have healthy, clean water. I applied and was accepted, so starting next Tuesday, I will begin my training as a Water Ambassador! Yay! I will be sure to let you all know all about it, so check back here. I will try to post more than once a year. Ha!

Water, water, everywhere

There are a lot of things going on that affect the quality of the water that we drink. We'll be tracking these things here, to the best of our ability. Most of it is bad news, to be honest, but we will try to intersperse the bad with some reasons for hope, and things that you can do to help effect change.

Here is a brief list:

Standing Rock protest of the DAPL

Pipeline accidents and spills

Attempts to abolish the EPA

Water Quality in Flint, MI (and many other places that have gone unreported)

TVA coal ash leaks on the Cumberland
